My Photo shoot. Photo 1. Land Army Girl as Housewife.

I have recreated the image of the woman in this war time propaganda to contrast the housewife.
Setting for my photo shoot, my friends kitchen, thought that this was the perfect setting as I am contrasting a 1950's housewife with a woman from the women's land army. The kitchen is not exactly 'kosher' 1950's but the cornflour blue cupboards are just typical of the 50's. I love this kitchen it has a sense of nostalgia, so many memories were made in this kitchen thanks Jayne :)

Getting ready for the photo shoot, using just a plain black collared shirt tucked in to khaki coloured trousers with a bit of muddy brown eyeshadow on her face and a rag of the fabric I printed - not bad considering i had a hour to get it all together.

Another photo of the costume. Wearing horse muckers 2 sizes to big.

One of my favourites.

Tried and tested in Black and White - didn't like it.
Considering this girl is camera shy I think she did really well.

Rankin, 'Shooting The Hollywood Stars'

Recently I watched a documentary on BBC about Rankin's recent project in which he recreated iconic photographs of Hollywood stars. I am inspired by this project as in my final project I have to recreate settings and people.

Micheal Sheen as Charlie Chaplin, with Rankin himself.
Micheal Sheen really got into his character in this photo shoot - he wanted everything to look genuine and perfect and really focused on choosing the correct makeup and props.

Charlie Chaplin - The Tramp 1914, unknown photographer.

Leslie Mann as Greta Garbo.
This in my opinion was proberbly the easiest photo shoot as Leslie Mann looks so similar to Greta Garbo and there was'nt any props to be used.
Leslie Mann (left), Greta Garbo (right), 'The Kiss' 1929, Clarence St Clair.

Tulili (Rankins Wife) as Jane Russell.
This was the hardest as they had lots of issues with the lighting.

Jane Russell, 'The Outlaw' 1941, George Hurrell

Matthew Rhys as Marlon Brando
The start of the famous 'Bad Boy' image.

Marlon Brando, The Wild One' 1953, unknown photographer.

Selma Blair as Faye Dunaway.
The morning after Faye Dunaway won her Oscar by the pool of her hotel.

Faye Dunaway, the day after the oscars, 1977, Terry O'Neill

Does it work? Is it genuine and well made? Is it attractive?

Proposal for Final Major Project.
The main idea around my project is to contrast the Land Army girls of the 1940's with 1950's housewives. I intend to design and print a surface pattern to make a 1950's style dress. The dress will be the focal point of the project. I propose to make a Public Information Film around the idea of how to be a 1950's housewife. Also to do a photoshoot of a woman from the land army and the 1950's housewife switching roles.

'Unravel'

The 'Unravel' duo came to college for their project. They are travelling up and down Britain with an old film projector and metres of blank film and asking people to draw on them.
This is our contribution.

I really like Julia's work as it is the style I am going to use in my own surface pattern.

Carin Godberg - Catalog

Carin Goldberg is an american illustrator/artist.
She was born in New York City and studied at Cooper Union School of Art.
Poster design.

Catalog

I am particularly inspired by Goldberg's 'Catalog' in which she has took a American 1950's ordering catalog and selected bits out of it to draw she puts items next to each other which she feels shows some resemblance.

Just because it made me laugh.

Dame Laura Knight

Dame Laura Knight was employed during World War II to draw and paint the homefront.
The image above is in Coventry (local city to me so local I work in Coventry) in which women were working on a balloon site, which they let off these massive balloons to trick the enemy!
